Employee calls the Fire Department after manager refuses to fix a hazard in the store's aisles, Fire Chief closes the store until manager complies with regulations: ‘Corporate was not happy’

If we had a dollar every time our boss ignored one of our suggestions, only for them to realize we were right all along, yet still refused to acknowledge us whatsoever… Well, we would have a few dollars to our name.

What is it about bosses refusing to listen to really good advice just because? What can't they just open their minds and listen?

Take the boss in the story below as an example. He works as a retail store manager, and he refused to listen to one of his employees' warnings that one of their aisles poses a fire hazard. We get it, who wants to work harder to clear a busy aisle if they don't really have to?

However, being ignored about this matter was not something the employee was willing to let slide, so they decided to do the reasonable thing and call the Fire Department, letting them handle the situation…

  • Luckily, the Fire Chief did not ignore the employee's call and arrived at the store the next day to inspect it. This led to a dispute with the manager, who refused to clear out the aisle even at the Chief's demands.

    When the Chief decided to close the story, the manager was forced to finally listen.

    Anyways, they tried to cram as much product on the floor as possible, to the point that you couldn't walk through the aisles and had to twist and turn to get past the fixtures set up with product.

    Store manager tried to protest and suddenly the Sheriff's Department starts showing up. Long story short, they were closed for 5 1/2 hours while the Chief, Store Manager, and employees rearranged the store to acceptable levels.

    The supervisor never treated me differently so I'm guessing she didn't remember the conversation. The Store Manager, surprisingly, did NOT get fired by corporate but corporate was not happy.
